The lawmaker representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal Constituency, Shina Abiola Peller, has said it is time for Nigerians to end godfatherism in politics, rather build institutions that will make the Nation work.

The lawmaker said the political system has been busy building individuals, instead of institutions, which is why there is an existing systemic failure in the nation.

Speaking at the Shina Peller Nigeria Union of Journalists Ramadan Lecture/Iftar in Ibadan, Peller said there is an urgent need for a new system of politics.

The lawmaker, berated the foundational defects in the nation, calling on youths to come together in building a new system, by consciously creating a change that will make the existing one obsolete.

Peller who is a frontline Presidential aspirant said godfatherism and the imposition of candidates on the people must be discouraged in order to build institutions.

“We need a system that functions. This is the time to build institutions and not individuals. We have to identify strengths across all strata and put aside political or ethnic sentiments. We lack good leadership in Nigeria, therefore we must work for desirable change,” he said.

“What we must take note of is that we can’t achieve the change that we so desire by fighting the present reality, we must build a new system that will make the present system obsolete.
