Armed hoodlums on Saturday invaded the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria’s station, Amuludun FM, Moniya, Ibadan, Oyo State, and vandalised vehicles and broke glass doors and windows of the media house.

It was gathered that the station, located in the Akinyele Local Government Area of the state, came under attack from the hoodlums following an earlier raid carried out on the hideout of suspected criminals in the Sasa area on Saturday.

The hoodlums were said to have embarked on reprisal against members of the Soludero Hunters, a vigilante group, which went after suspected criminals in the Sasa area.

One of the alleged criminals, who was said to have been fatally injured, later died in hospital. The death was said to have angered his colleagues, who believe that the Soludero Hunters had a post on the FRCN premises.

Because they did not see any of their targets, the hoodlums were said to have vented their anger on the vehicles parked on the premises and parts of the building.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday.

He said, “Sequel to the face-off between members  of Soludero, a local vigilante group, and some criminal elements around Sasa area, Ojo, Akinyele LGA of Oyo State, while on routine patrol yesterday, Saturday, July 31, 2021, around 4am. One Kabati, a member of the criminal gang, sustained gunshot injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

“Consequent upon this, hoodlums in their numbers stormed the Soludero office, presumably located on the premises of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Amuludun 99.1 FM, Moniya Ibadan, in a bid to launch a reprisal.

“Preliminary investigation from an on-the-spot assessment shows that upon the arrival of the hoodlums, they became agitated as none of their targets could be seen.

“Consequently, windscreens/glasses of four vehicles parked on the premises were shattered along with the glass door at the entrance to the media outfit. With this, it can be inferred that the attack was not targeted directly at the media outfit but members of the vigilante group.”

The PPRO added that the perpetrators would be arrested and be made to face justice.
