As part of measures to prevent destruction of properties and loss of lives, the Oyo state government has embarked on the opening of river channels in Sooko, a community in Akobo, Ibadan.
The community is one of the communities that usually suffer from heavy flood whenever there is a heavy downpour.
Since the commencement of rainfall this year, residents of Sooko, especially those living very close to the waterways have had series of experiences related to flood in the area. Many times, some of the residents have suffered loss of properties due to the flood.
With the expansion of the water ways in Sooko, some of the residents have lauded the expansion by the Oyo state government saying that the expansion will reduce the incessant flood that usually cause havoc in the area.
